Today on the second day of our trek, we have started truly experiencing the majesty of the Himalayas. We started from Monju and entered the Sagarmatha National Park area at Jorsalle. The mighty Khumbiyola straddles the Khumbu valley and is considered the reigning deity of this region; on our right towers the majestic Kusum khangru.
We crossed the pristine waters of the Dudhkosi and started the ascent towards Namche Bazar. Most of us have been here before but the ascent continues to remain literally and figuratively breathtaking. There is however a major relief midway during the climb, where we get the first clear view of Mt Everest in the distance. The weather was absolutely clear and the view offered was fantastic. Kongde and Thamserku are the other mighty mountains that flank this route. We reached Namche at lunch time and were thrilled to be back at this historic landmark – the heart of Sherpaland. It is a very 'happening' place with plenty of shops offering a variety of mountain wear and equipment and plenty of trekkers milling around.
After lunch we climbed about 200 meters to visit a privately owned museum. Sherpa Sonam Lakhpa has painstakingly collected photographs of prominent Sherpas and mountaineers and has also recreated a traditional sherpa home.
We made good `time today as a team and all the members are healthy and well.
