After a good breakfast, we bid farewell to Thame.  We headed back toward Namche but then took a separate trail toward Khumjung. Along the way we took a break for tea at the airport just above Namche.  We then took the same trail the children from Namche take to get to the Hillary school in Khumjung.  We checked into and had a filling lunch at the AmaDablam lodge. 

Afterwards, we (except Mark-he headed back to Namche) walked together to the Kunde hospital.  It was established many years ago by the Hillary foundation to serve the Sherpa people of Khumjung, Kunde, Namche, and Thame (Khumbu region). Two years ago while trekking with my family my son became very sick and was treated and cared for by Dr. KamiTemba Sherpa. Unfortunately, I was unable to thank him properly at the time.  Today we found him working at the clinic and I was able to meet with him and thank him face to face.  God bless him! Afterwards, we took an acclimatization hike to the top of Kunde peak(4200m).  From the ridge we could see the settlements of Namche, Thame, Kunde, Khumjung and Tengboche, the Everest view hotel, the airport, as well as many 6000m peaks.  Sometimes from this spot you can even see Everest, Lhotse and AmaDablam. Because it was late in the day they were cloud covered.

We had a great time as you can see from our photos. We had a great dinner! My yak steak and chips was particularly good. Mark, Chris and I had a second plate along with soup and apple pie! After dinner David Breashears gave us an amazing computer animated presentation by GlacierWorks showing the dramatic recession of glaciers throughout  the Himalaya. They are trying to understand the impact this may have on populations dependent on glaciers for their water supply. We are off to bed after a very satisfying day. In the morning , we move to Tengboche.
