What a day it has been!! This morning we said our final farewell to the Khumbu Valley and took our harrowing flight out of Lukla and back to Kathmandu. Last night after a delicious dinner at our tea house, our amazing guides surprised us with a chocolate cake, which you can see the photos of in the previous blog post. The cake was gone in about five minutes flat.
Although we were sad to leave the mountains that we had come to love over the last few weeks, we were welcomed to Kathmandu with a relatively cool and clear day. We were all pretty exhausted from the trek we had just finished but that didn’t stop most of us from going out and exploring the city almost immediately after setting our bags down.
The night ended with a group dinner that included two of our guides, Tendi and Min, at a restaurant by the name of Rum Doodle, a place that is a tradition for post-trek groups. All over the wall are cardboard feet that previous groups have designed and signed. So naturally we too had to have a foot on the wall. After a lot of laughter, a few Everest beers and some amazing food we said our “So longs”. Not goodbye, just until next time.
