Kathmandu-Lukla

Wake up-call 05.00. Pick-up at the hotel at 06.15 and transport to the airport. The normal chaos which would be disturbing if it hadn’t been for Peak Promotions excellent handling that makes checking in smooth as silk. The one hour flight to Lukla is as always breath taking. The view is astonishing where you can see at least five, six 8.000-meter peaks on your left hand side. The landing at the short airstrip on the mountain side also makes it worth the money..! Peak Promotions staff met us at the airport and the luggage plus all the other stuff we will need during the coming three weeks was divided between porters and yaks. In total we have some 19 people and seven yaks to support us during the expedition. As usual the organization is flawless and we quickly got on our way to our first stop. The small village of Phakding at 2.650meters. This first half day of trekking is really easy. Actually mostly downhill. But even so the few slopes we have to manage immediately makes you aware of the thin air at this altitude. The first few nights we will be sleeping at Lodges and not in tents so we checked in at the Tashi Taki Lodge. A really nice and well kept lodge. Tomorrow the first real tests will to come. The much feared ascent to the village of Namche Bazar which in just a couple of hours will take us up from a “safe” altitude to an altitude where you have to start being careful and monitor how your body acclimatize to the high altitude. However, everyone is feeling great and the spirit is high in the group
