22nd May, 2012 - Camp II (21,000 ft.) to Camp III (23,500 ft.)

This morning it was clear, cold and windy.  We were still getting word that the 24th would be the start of a good weather window.  A service out of Washington State is followed by many of the expeditions at EBC.  It is actually a man working out of his home in Washington.  It is our best source for Everest weather.  Lakpa and I got up at 5 AM again, had breakfast (hot tea) and headed up to Camp III.  The ascent to Camp II went well and we arrived at about 10:30 AM.  The wind continued to blow 20 to 30 mph most of the time, but in our down suits it was comfortable.  It remained sunny and clear.

Once at Camp III we settled into eat and drink as much as possible to prepare for our summit push.  Pasang was scheduled to come up the next morning around 5 AM and move up with us to Lhotse Camp IV at just a few hundred feet under 26,000 ft.

At Camp III the view out over the Western CWM is spectacular with Cho Oyu further out over Puma Ri, Nuptse to the left and the South face of Everest to the right.  The wind continued to blow pretty hard all night leaving some doubt about our pending weather window.  The wind also made for a fairly cold night even in my Marmot -40 degree F down sleeping bag.
