Lhotse Expedition

27th April, 2012 - Day 9 at EBC (17,500 ft)

It was clear and breezy this morning.  There was a large avalanche that came off Nuptse that caused significant damage to Camp I.  One Sherpa was injured when he was thrown into a crevasse by the wind and spindrift from the avalanche.  The Indian team of 12 climbers with Peak Promotion had just arrived at camp I was fortunate that most of them were able to get into the Peak Promotion tents at camp I.  None of them were injured and the tents were saved by having them in the tents.  No other injuries have been reported so far.

After lunch I was able to get some laundry done and got it hung up on a clothes line near my tent.  It will probably take several days to get everything dry.

By late afternoon we were getting our usual flurries.  I am still working on eating as much as possible to regain some of my strength.  I am still planning to go up to Camp II on the 30th.
