16th April , 2012 - Camp I hit

Today the plan was to climb up the entire Khumbu icefall and reach camp1 and get down the same day. This is necessary for proper acclimatization before occupying the camp. It was definitely big day. We started at 5am. It was chilly. We started our climb through maze of blue ice. After couple of hours climb through crevasses and ladders we reached avalanche area. There is always danger of avalanche from Lhola face. There is debris of big ice boulder on the way dislodged during avalanches in last couple of days. Sherpas marked this portion using prayer flags. We had to be very quick and careful in this section. After this section we reached top of snow slopes full of deep crevasses. Finally we reached campsite at 10am. Camp1 site is fully surrounded by crevasses and it very risky to stay there. After spending half an hour we returned to basecamp. We reached Base camp at 2pm.
