Today we descended from Tengbuche to Namche Bazaar, 3400 meters. It was a great day indeed! Both Pemba and I slept like babies – the extra oxygen is making life very pleasant.
The hike down was around 3 hours, and it was a great walk in very nice weather. The route included both accents and descends. But with all the extra oxygen available it provided no challenge at all. Pemba and I where just strolling along at full speed, listening to music from Pembas mobile, feeling like kings of the world!
Along the way we stopped for tea and snacks, and we watched some girls dancing, celebrating the end of the Dipawali (tihar) festival. I loved their colorful dresses!
Close to Namche Bazaar I asked Pemba if we could take a photo together with Mt. Everest as the background. I wanted to make it a bit fun, so I lifted him up from the ground on my shoulders. Again with all the oxygen available lifting him felt effortless :)
We spend the afternoon relaxing in Namche Bazaar, spending some time with some of Pembas friends, visiting the Friday/Saturday market and enjoying some delicious food at the Kumbu Lodge (I can really recommend this lodge, if you happen to be in Namche Bazaar!)
Tomorrow is going to be a long day – we will descend all the way down to Lukla!
