29 October 2017, Hike to Khumjung valley & Back to Namche
On the day of October 29,2017 We opened the curtains this Morning to see the vast snowy peak of Kongde mountain soaring over Namche Bazaar village. We could hardly believe our eyes! Ngwang Sherpa then took us to see the Everest viewing point and it was an amazing panorama of Himalayan peak after peak - Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Taboche and Thamserkhu. We had not imagined in our wildest dreams a view like this. Everest remained elusive behind the clouds and just as we were about to leave the summit came into view - so many dreams have begun, been fulfilled and ended there. After puffing in the thin air up to the Everest View Hotel (it has rooms with oxygen for the uber rich who are helicoptered in from Khatmandu for $3,000) we visited the sherpa village of Khumjung and school founded by Edmund Hillary. The children we met, as young as 4, asked 'how are you?' in perfect English and there is art room and computer department. A great legacy funded by the Himalayan Trust.
