7th April - 2013 - Trek to Tengboche

We reluctantly left the salubrious Khumbu lodge in Namche for the dusty trail.  Climbing the steep stone trail out of town, our efforts were rewarded as Ama Dablam, Lhotse and Everest came into sight.  The Dudh Kosi river roared far below as we contoured around the hillside, eventually dropping down to cross at Phungi Tenga and eat lunch.  Scott got some marvelous pictures of Pemba and Karina as they crossed the last of the mighty swing bridges of the lower Khumbu.  The initial climb to the Tengboche Monastery is noticeable for the number of water-powered prayer wheels busily spinning.  We then got to business for the 700 meter climb to the Monastery.  Cloud had lowered, obscuring the surrounding peaks and cooling the air.  Marcelo, from Brazil, did the entire hike in a down jacket and all of us were donning jackets by the time we arrived at the Monastery at 3900 meters.  Tomorrow we head to Pangboche with a visit to Lama Geshe in Pangboche en route.
