9- November- 2014 - Trek Back to Lukla

Last trekking day... After breakfast we left our favorite hotel Khumbu Lodge in Namche. Before we left the village, Ngwang showed us a local market which is every Friday and Saturday. Lots of spices, fruits, vegetables, cloths and even a butcher's counter with fresh buffalo and pork meat. Almost everything which is sold at the market has  been transported by porters or yaks from Lukla, not refrigerated of course... Wondering what "Livsmedelsverket" in Sweden would have said about that ;)

After we had been strolling around at the market we continued down through a forest, where we saw the national bird Dapi again. This time it was really close to us, showing all its colors when it was walking between the trees. Further down we stopped at the National Park Office where we got our certificates for reaching Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar. Something to put on the wall when we come home :)

Now it was time to walk down the steep path down to the high hanging bridge over the river. Fortunately, the way down didn't feel as long as it did when we walked the other way. Thanks for that! Walking along the river towards Phakding we realized that it was lots of beautiful sights we had missed on the way up. The route from Namche to Phakding can be one of the most beautiful with the river, forests and all small and idyllic villages. We met lots of mule herds on the way. One time we had to wait about ten minutes because so many mules passed on a very narrow road between pen walls, where we couldn't meet them. When we reached one of the big waterfalls along the way, we stopped for a tea break. Half an hour later we reached Phakding where we had lunch at the hotel we stayed at the first night. After lunch we were going to climb 250 altitude meters, which we did in two hours when we finally reached Lukla.

In Lukla we checked in at Khumbu Resort, were we will stay for the last night on this trip. We had a great dinner having chicken and yak sizzler with french fries. Eating meat for the first time in eleven days was wonderful! Now we will sleep better than ever :)

Tomorrow morning the plane will take us from Lukla to Kathmandu again for new adventures! We will work as volunteers at a school for street kids, Child Watabaran Center Nepal (CWCN), during four months. If you want to follow us and read about our work at CWCN, please visit www.CWCN.org

We've been very fortunate to be able to manage this trek, and Ngwang and Gemke has been great in supporting us on our way. We owe them our most sincere thanks.

With that said, we only have one last thing to say - Live in peace and Prosper!
