Our last sunrise on the trek was in Pothana this morning. Despite climbing out of the mountains for the last few days, the views of Annapurna South, Hinchuli, and Machhupuchhare are still spectacular. After our last Himalayan banana pancake, we set out for a short (in time only) decent down stone staircases to the taxi depot in Phedi to get a ride to Pokhara.
We arrived at our hotel prior to lunch. Although as advertised it was a "Nice Normal Hotel", we were disappointed to learn it was actually named "Hotel Third Pole". But the disappointment was brief as it was a fine place to rest. Pokhara was a very nice city, where a trekker can definitely outfit themselves in all the necessary gear within one block. Pokhara borders the beautiful Phewa Lake that is set against a backdrop of the foothills, with the mountains peaking over top to the east.
We explored the city, had a cocktail by the lake, and then dinner at Zorba's, a Nepali/German venture. The night ended with a celebratory glass of wine at Pokhara's new (and only) wine bar, the Eclipse Lounge.
Final stats for the trek: 80+ miles (all climbing or descending – the Annapurna Sanctuary has no flats), over 31,000 ft. of accent (more than climbing Mt. Everest!), and a max altitude of 4,130 meters (13,500 ft+).
