October 1, 2014 - Hike to Poonhill and trek to Tadapani

4:30 am wake up for a march 1000 ft up Poon Hill to our current high point of 10,500 ft via headlamp for sunrise. While our first taste of winter, it was a beautiful view of the Annapurna mountain range as the sun rose. We returned to the teahouse on Ghorepani for breakfast, and then set out for Tadapani.

The trek to Tadapani was diverse in climates and temperature, with a significant part of the day in rainforest conditions, rounding out a four-season experience in one morning. We had brief rest stops in Derali and Banthani for lunch by the river. We arrived in Tadapani 6 hours later with blue skies and our first rain-free afternoon. We also had our first taste of trekking downhill, which resulted in a net loss in altitude for the day. Right before sunset, we were treated to spectacular views of Annapurna south and Machhupuchhare (and just as we have spelled it differently ever time, so do the locals).
