Back to Namche

From Jay Lemery

We continued our walk down the enchanted Khumbu valley today. Although there was a fair bit of up in our return to Namche Bazaar, there was more oxygen than the past few days. We were reunited with our familiar friends Ama Dablam and Tham Serku (Jake’s Peak). Today was another reunion milestone for our group, as we had a group toast over cans of the Nepali Beer San Miguel (which means ‘Saint Michael’ in Nepali). It has been an incredible experience for all of us, and the reflections that we’ve shared with each other on our return from Base Camp are testament to the spiritual power of this place, and its incredibly charming and hospitable denizens—our Sherpa hosts. Tomorrow is our final night here before returning to Kathmandu—and Wongchu has promised a party full of singing and dancing. One wonders if the increasingly amorous exchanges between Wongchu and Paul will lead to something more— a Khumbu love coup perhaps?

It’s been a trip of a lifetime and I am deeply thankful to my teammates for this wonderful experience.
