From Everest BC by Paul Auerbach, MD

Today was one of the most special days of my life. As we arrive at Everest BC, our day began in Gorakshep where we overnighted very comfortably and arose to a soft fog. As the sun melt away the fog, we saw a ring of Spectacular Mountain, including most impressing Pumori with a slow methodical hike, we caught excellent views of Mt. Everest & watched a helicopter bring 2 climbers to BC. As we entered BC, we were suddenly in the midst of tent-multicolored with tents, prayer flags, cooking tent, and excitement of the first summit of the season from this side of the mountain. My reunion with Luann Freer and Eric Johnson and of Brian with Eric is the culmination of a strenuous, wonderful trek in the mountain. Their work at the clinic is very important and the facility quite impressive. What an accomplishment. Out group traversed part of the icefall to the first ladder including a rope-up without crampons. It is hard to describe the magic of this place as I write this. It is snowing and we will soon head to our tent for sleep. Bless Luanne, Eric, Wongchu, my family and friends, the doctors and the nurse who save mankind, and all who cherish adventure and the mountains. Tonight we sleep to the hill by of avalanches in the distance and wish all the climbers God speed.
