Our day started early – wake up call at 530 am – with a brisk hike up to the top of Poon Hill. I think Jen and I were both still pretty tired from the climb yesterday, since even without our backpacks, it was a slow, tough walk up to the top of the hill. Nevertheless, we made it up top before the sun showed itself over the hills. The view was spectacular – the Roof of the World right in front of us, practically 360 degrees of mountains. After a much easier walk down, we had breakfast and relaxed for a few minutes by the chimney – which we will miss. Then we started on the way to Deurali, which was my favorite part of our trek so far. It was up for the first half of the way, which my tired legs struggled with, but the views along the way were nearly as amazing as those on Poon Hill. We took a lot of pictures! Lunch in Deurali was nice, then we followed the trail down and down. The trail was snowy and slippery, so it was slow going. There were beautiful trees and waterfalls all along the path. We decided at some point to stop for the night in Banthanti, rather than press on to Tadapani, and were rewarded with some beautiful viewes, especially of Annapurna South, which seems much closer than before. On the other side of the hill we can see the lights of Uleri far below. Ulleri had seemed so high up when we had lunch there on the second day of the trek. Tomorrow we will head to Gandruk, and hopefully we will have another clear, sunny day like today.
