We enjoyed another long morning at the great tea house in
Chukhung (Chukhung Resort & Restaurant) before hiking up to Island Peak
Base Camp. It was a beautiful hike along
a glacial river and more rolling moraines.
Fewer people up here, which is a nice change from the trails closer to
Lukla. There are several other groups at
base camp, preparing to climb Island Peak also.
A small hike up from base camp revealed Imja Lake, an amazing
ice-covered lake that is glacially dammed at the base of Ama Dablam. We are spoiled
campers, as the tents and
dinner were prepared for our arrival by our great porter/guide team. Best tomato
soup I’ve ever eaten! No
Kidding! We also carbo-loaded with
pasta, in preparation for the long climb tomorrow. Marcie ate most of my share. We
plan to be up
at midnight to begin the climb. Wish us
luck!
