01 April, 2008

After breakfast we headed up the rocky trail from Dingboche (4350 meters) to Chuckhung (4743 meters). Clouds were very low around us with some light flurries continuing from the night. Only a light dusting was on the ground. The Khumbu cough continues for Terri and I and Chet was starting to pick it up a little also. The trail ran behind Dingboche on the hillside and then dropped into the rocky stream bed fed by the Upset, Lhotse and Ama Dablam glaciers. The grade was steady until the last half mile where it steepened up to Chukhung. Chukhung is located at the base of the Lhotse glacier moraine.

We arrived at the Ama Dablam view lodge around noon. We got our rooms and than had drinks and lunch. By the time we reached the lodge I was quite sick. This was my first case of good old traveler’s diarrhea. My Khumbu cough was also well on the way to bronchitis. It became clear as the evening went on that tomorrow would have to be a rest day for me and Terri and Chet voted to also take a rest day.
