Today we arrived in Kathmandu. We met the guys from Peak Promotion, and they took us to the hotel. Everything went pretty smoothly, including the fact that Anders got scammed out of $5. That was probably my favorite part of the day.
After that, we had some time to walk around Thamel, and it was a pretty cool neighborhood. We grabbed some lunch at a backpacker noodle place and met back at the hotel later in the afternoon to meet our guide, Ang Dawa Sherpa. I don’t know what it is about him, but I trust this guy. Actually, I probably trust him because he’s climbed bigger mountains than anyone I’ve ever met. He was great at explaining to us what we’d be doing and what we would need. After he looked at our stuff, we went out and got some of the things we were lacking in our packs. I bought a poncho, and I’m glad I did. You don’t want to be up there without rain gear.
Later on, we had a welcome dinner, which was really neat. We saw some local dancing and met the Peak Promotion director Wongchu Sherpa. He made us feel at home and told us some stories from past expeditions. By that point we were really tired and were happy to get to sleep.
