Mt. Everest

Up at 5:0 am to check the sky out and found it to be another overcast sky with some breaks.  Equipped with oour tripods, cameras Alan and I headed out anyway.  Soon after first light the sky started opening up, offering wonderful views of all the snow clad peaks that surround Tyangboche.  Tyangboche (3890 mts, 12,800 ft) sit on a small flat ridge (almost a valley) with 360 views of magnificent Himalayan Giants.  Everest, Lhotse, Lhotse Shar, Peak 38 to the north, Amadablam, Khang Tega to the east.  Kongde Range to the south and Tawache to the west.
After spending a few hours photographing the peaks and having breakfast with Everest in view we started our hike down the Tyangboche hill to the Dud Kosi.  Crossing the river we had a steep climb to Namche Bazaar.  A long days and we were all tired on reaching Namche, but happy for the hot showers at the Khumbu Lodge.  Alan had so much fun photographing the peaks that he decided to spend another night at Tyangboche and will then double time tomorrow to catch up with us

Mingmar Dorji Sherpa – Our local guide who has summitted Everest three times.

We have two guides – our leader Sanjay and Mingmar.  Mingmar has climbed Everest twice from the challenging South side and once from the North Face.  His first ascent was from the South side with David Breashears in 2004.  Mingmar speaks good English and I have been taking full advantage of it.  Everest expeditions can take 2 to 3 years of planning and last up to 60 days, especially from the south side.  Mingmar has no fear of climbing.  I asked him many a times and his answer is an unwavering no.  Climbing Everest is an extremely demanding endeavor and without Sherpa’s liker Mingmar, it would simply not be possible.  Mingmar has told me a few stories and to hear about them you will have to visit this site again in a day or two.
