First View - Everest
01 October, 2009

Susan Carder:
Namaste (Nepalise greeting “I salute the soul within you”) to my family and friends from Nepal.  Wed we flew from Kathmandu to Lukla (9380 ft) and trekked to Benkar and today to Namche Bazaar (11, 300 ft).  That is only a 2000 ft elevation gain, but unfortunately there are many ups and downs in between with many cable suspension footbridges crossing steep canyons  with foaming rivers below.  Vistas are incredible – viewed Mt Everest (29,035 ft) or Sagarmatha, “The Forehead of the Sky” to the Nepalese today.  We will have two days here to walk the bazaar and explore the heart of the Sherpa community.  More in a day or two.
