Today we traveled from Pheriche to Namache with 12 miles of undulating terrain. Crazy to feel like the air at 11,000 feet is oxygen rich. As the trek comes to an end, there is a feeling of melanchony in the air. While we're all excited to see our friends and family, we'll miss the friends we made on the trek. As Bob said, it's an unforgetable trip and we've made friends for a lifetime.
The trek included awe-inspiring views that left us speechless while the loads the porters carried on the same trails (upwards of 100 lbs) left us awestruck. We traveled the same trails as many famous mountaineers and experienced the Nepali culture of unending patience and cheerful nature.
You'd think it was all downhill from base camp, but no, we climbed down, down, down to the river, crossed the bridge and then back up, up, up to Namche Bazaar. As we traveled over the cobblestone streets into Namche, Alex phrased it best "So I'm guessing these trails are not handicap accessible.....?" The chocolate cake at the Khumbu Lodge helped the knees feel better. We had a beautiful sunny day with several views of Everest and Ama Dablam. Tomorrow we hike back to Lukla for a celebratory dinner before we fly out for KTM early Wednesday morning.
