A day of great Himalayan sites with some exhilarating hiking. The group woke up refreshed after a full night’s sleep at the Sunrise Hotel. We were greeted by blue skies with just the wisp of clouds. Today’s day would be consumes by hiking and incredible views. Once again we were greeted by scenes of daily life. Nepali’s leading teams of ponies and donkeys along the trail. A Nepali boy leading his team of goats. Children playing. Porters carrying heavy loads up and down the trail. By mid afternoon we had reached the entrance to the national park. The trail became quieter then, as there were fewer structures along the trail. The hiking became steeper. The weather held, as we had just a small brief drizzle of rain during the day. Crossing one particular large cable bridge covered in prayer flags over a blue Himalayan gorge in high winds was particularly exhilarating. It was while in the national park that we began to see examples of the local wildlife, including mountain goats, jungle crows, and the local pheasant.
Finally we reached Namche Bazaar. For someone who has never been here, seeing it for the first time is like visiting a place in a fairy tale. It is the stuff of dreams. A mountain city surrounded by the Himalaya. All of us were soon in the Khumbu Lodge. We had all made it safe and sound with no injuries. Our Sherpa team bears full responsibility for this, as the care and professionalism they have displayed during our trek has been exceptional. We all look forward to continuing this grand adventure and exploring this incredible place during our rest day tomorrow.
