We wake up at a little after 6 AM. We packed up our bags for the two porters and then had breakfast. We left our Lodge at about 8:30 on our way to Namche. This morning the sun was out on the mountains around us with only a few clouds. The trail out of Phakding starts out pretty easy and gradually the climbs increase. After lunch at Thumbug it was a short distance with several more suspension bridges before the climbing began. At about 2800 m in Thumbug you climb up to 3440 m at Namche. Today Terri felt the elevation a bit as we neared Namche. We got up to Namche around 2:30 PM.
At Namche we checked into one of my favorite lodges – the Khumbu Lodge. Pemba the owner has always been very helpful with whatever you need. In 2010 he helped me round up additional rope for an Ama Dablam climb. Our two porters had left about an hour before us this morning and were not in Namche yet. I don’t know where we passed them, but they did not arrive at our lodge until after 4:30 PM. So far they don’t seem very quick.
We will spend tonight and tomorrow night in Namche to help acclimatize. The elevation of 3440 m (about 12,000 ft.) is much higher than the 400 ft. that we live at. It will be good to rest and get used to this elevation.
