18th May, 2012 - Camp II (21,000 ft.)

It was clear this morning with no wind at Camp II.  The sun hit my tent around 7:45 AM.  I got my wake up tea and my tent warmed up quickly with sunshine and a clear sky.  I had breakfast at 8:30 AM and then drank some tea while watching a steady line of climbers and Sherpa’s above Camp III heading to the South Col.  There were more than 200 heading up to the South Col today with plans to reach the summit of Everest tomorrow.

Before lunch I sorted my gear and clothing for going up to Camp III tomorrow morning.  After lunch we got light snow showers and the wind picked up a bit.  Higher on Everest and Lhotse it was still clear.  Much like at EBC – as the sun warms the lower glacier, clouds form and you get afternoon snow showers.

My plan for tomorrow is to get up at 5 AM and leave Camp II by 6 AM.  That should allow me time enough to get to the base of the Lhotse face around 8 AM, before the sun hits.  Once on the Lhotse face it shouldn’t get too warm for the down suit I will be wearing.  Lakpa and I should get to Camp III by 11 AM, which will give plenty of time to rest in the afternoon.
