November 6, 2012 - Namche to Tengboche

After two nights in Namche Bazaar it was time to get on with business and head further up the mountain to Tengboche, 3850m.

We started the day with saying goodbye to Tommy the Swedish guy, and then visiting the Everest museum. Here we got to see a lot of interesting artifacts from Sherpa history – cooking items, carrying items, etc. We also visited the photo gallery, where we saw a photo of Pemba himself on the hall of fame of people having climbed the mighty mountain!

After a nice lunch, it was time for business and we had to walk up, up, up for 2 hours straight in the blazing sun – it was soooo hot! But our hard efforts were rewarded and we reached Tengboche and a stunning view of Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam. They are getting closer! Particular Ama Dablam is looking bigger and bigger!

And I think I was finally rewarded for my efforts of carrying around my ridiculous heavy tripod – as my room on the 2nd floor had the perfect view of the sunset on Everest. So I put the tripod on the roof, wrapped myself into my down jacket, and waited for the magic to happen.

I went to the monastery after sunset, where I ran into a great old Nepali friend of mine – Ratna. He was my guide in 2008 when I was at Poon Hill, where I fell in love with Nepal. It was great seeing him again, and much unexpected! We enjoyed some tea together, and caught up on what was going on in each other’s life. I was quite touched that he was carrying around my photograph in his wallet as a memory!

The evening was finished with some generous servings of Dhal Bhatt, and playing on the computer together with Pemba.

It is quite cold outside, so maybe today is the day where I can finally sip up that awesome down sleeping bag of mine! I think I will put my water bottles inside it for sure, as I think we will go below freezing temperatures tonight.

I set the alarm clock for very early tomorrow, as I want to see the sunrise from my room on Everest.
