We left Lobuche early this morning to go to Gorak Shep our last post for the trek (before were heading back again). We arrived about midday, had a quick lunch and then continued all the way to Everest Base camp along the Khumbu glacier. The landscape was not very welcoming but quite spectacular! Everywhere around us were rocks in different size and shapes. It almost seemed like Thor had been there with his hammer and smashed a mountain into pieces. After a couple of hours in the rocky terrain we reached the base camp. High five!! But It turned out, no Everest was in sight? To get a good look at the highest mountain in the world you first have to climb a hazardous icefall. Sadly, we didn’t have time for that… so we turned around and went back the way we came. Our hopes are up for tomorrow though when were leaving at 3.30 am in order to reach a good viewpoint in time and watch the sun rise over the Himalayas.
