  29th October, 2010 - Lukla to Phakding

Today we got picked up early at 5 am to go to the domestic airport and fly to Lukla, the starting point of our trek. I was really nervous about the flight since I had read in the Swedish newspaper that the same plane crashed a few weeks earlier. But I prayed the whole way through the hills to the little mountain village Lukla and guess what? we made it! After a nice cup of tea we started our trek. The sun was up, it was fairly warm and clear blue sky. We passed some small villages on the way and got an insight into the daily life of the Nepalese people. Qute kiddos running around playing with bricks and seemed really happy with their simple toys. Apparently the route was extra busy today since there is a market up in the next village tomorrow. People were carrying enormous baskets with all kinds of food items and clothes. When I saw a little boy carrying a basket with a huge bone of red meat in the heat I was glad that I have the choice to be a vegetarian. - LISA
