5th November, 2011 - Trek to Tirkedhunga

After spending the night at Tikhedhunga we had a good breakfast and headed out trekking.  This trek had a lot of altitude gain, about 4300', but the trail quality was very good, mostly well made stone steps. We passed a number of waterfalls, and through several villages, stopping occasionally for tea. At one point we had a brief view of Annapurna South until the clouds closed in again. The trail went through some excellent jungle that included enormous rhododendrons – some 40' tall with 3' diameter trunks. Lunch was again excellent, and we arrived at Ghorepani around 2pm  in the afternoon. (At lunch Keith made friends with a kitten that spent some time sitting in his lap).

At Ghorepani we are staying in the Hotel Hill Top, which would have a spectacular view if only it weren't for the fog. The hotel has hot showers – a wonderful luxury after the long hike. Dinner was again excellent – both the variety and quality of the food have completely surpassed any of our expectations.  We are all feeling well, and not noticing any effects from the 9000' altitude.
If the weather is clear we will get up very early to see sunrise from Poon Hill, and then continue on our trek.
