12th November, 2011 - Hot Springs Jinhu

After an early (6:30) breakfast, we left cloudy Sinuwa for the hot springs of Jinhu (5,600 ft).  We retraced our steps down and then back up 1,500 ft up to Chhomrong, our Monday night's stay.  We had tea and some of us bought Annapurna souvenirs, then it was down another 1,500 ft through mixed forest to Jinhu, where the hot springs awaited.  Like everywhere here, there is no level, and so it was another 500 ft down trail to the river where the hot springs were (which meant back up after getting our muscles relaxed!)  Keith and Cathy tried a cold plunge in the river after being in the hot pool. The water was quite pleasant and actually not as cold as we expected. Cathy wanted to swim across the river but Pemba said that the current was too strong… Apparently the hot springs are destroyed annually with the monsoons (which end in Sept), and refurbished after.

After returning from the hot springs, we relaxed in the garden area of our hotel.  Chris and Keith tried the local millet wine called rakshi.  We had cookies and popcorn as a pre-dinner snack.  At dinner, Chris tried some Nepali red wine which was surprisingly good.

We were treated to dessert by our assistant guide and sometime cook, Ngima – it was chocolate cake!! Unfortunately Keith cannot tolerate sugar and chocolate doesn't like Joe anymore, so Chris and Cathy enjoyed the cake and it was shared with porters and two nearby children.  The cake was so delicious that Chris had two slices and vowed to have a leftover slice with breakfast tomorrow!

This is night #9, our last night on the trek.  Tomorrow is a long trek out to Nayapul and road's end, then back to Pokhara and hot showers!
