Annapurna Trekking

Chris' weather prediction was right on (good weather starting Tuesday)! We got up before sunrise and we were greeted with clear skies and the magnificent view of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna, and Machhapuchhre. The view drew gratifying sighs from some of us and wiped away all of hours that we spent in the Kathmandu airport. The lodge at Chhomrong – the last village on our journey to Annapurna Base Camp - was superb and we were all able to call our spouses to let them know that we are doing well. After breakfast, we started the trek by going down one million steps with our quadriceps screaming at us to stop. OK… Perhaps slight exaggeration; it was only half a million steps! We went up and down a couple of times and Joe exclaimed "but that's the elevation we started this morning!!" We then started to tread through lush bamboo jungle full with vibrant greens and we saw a different facade of the mountains and passed many tall waterfalls tumbling over sheer rock faces. We even encountered a family of gibbon monkeys. Trekking through the lush jungle really allow us to fully appreciate the name of Annapurna which means the Goddess of Harvest.
