9th November, 2011 - Deurali

Today we left Dovan for Deurali, moving ever higher in the mountains.  We are still in some bamboo, but are starting to leave the forest behind.  Unfortunately, Joe wasn't feeling well yesterday and even after a long sleep is still very fatigued today.  Still he is moving onward with ibuprofen and we are hopeful a short day's trek (2-3 hrs) will allow for rest and healing.  We went up and down along the trail yet again and continue to be amazed at the porters carrying 30-60kg of baggage, practically jogging along the rugged trails in flip flops and without any trekking poles!  We reached Deurali at 11am, perhaps our most rustic outpost yet.  After lunch, Joe immediately went to nap while the rest of us soaked up some sun and took advantage of an early stop to get some laundry done the old fashioned way – a bucket of water, soap, and a big flat rock for scrubbing!

As the day wore on, Joe felt worse, and we fear he may need to head back down just one day short of reaching close up views of the Annapurna range and Machhapuchhre.  We have promised him we will take his camera with us.  We will be glad to reach our final destination but saddened to now be 3.  We will spend tomorrow at Machhapuchhre Base Camp and rejoin Joe at Bamboo, an outpost below Dovan.
