7th November, 2011 - Chumrung

After a hard rain overnight, we awoke to roosters crowing and Annapurna South gleaming in the sunrise light, with glimpses of Machhapuchhre to her right.  The High Himalaya at last!  We got busy snapping photos and then a quick breakfast before leaving Tadapani for Chhumrung.  The itinerary doesn't tell the whole story:  1600 ft net downhill began with a 2500 ft punishingly steep descent so dizzying that Chris didn't notice she had exchanged trekking poles with someone in a different group until lunch break 2 hrs later – fortunately the other party was at the same lunch stop, equally bewildered.

We crossed a lovely suspension bridge and continued our trek uphill through mixed forest while the sun and clouds took turns in the limelight.  After a delicious lunch halfway to our destination, we continued regaining previously lost elevation with some of us complaining about our sore muscles.

We arrived at our guesthouse in Chhumrung around 2pm and relaxed on the patio, looking at our next day's route, while the clouds moved in, and closing off our view.  Tomorrow we start with another descent of maybe 1000', and then begin the long 3 day climb to Annapurna Base Camp.
