October 28, 2015 - Trek to Portse Tanga

Today is the 4th day of the trek and we entered the Gokyo valley.  After breakfast we visited the Hillary Secondary school in Khumjung. Sir Edmond was the guiding force behind setting up this school but over a period of time several mountaineering groups from various countries have added classes and facilities. It is a great boon for the Sherpa children in this area.

We then set off for our next destination.Phortse Tanga. We negotiated a long traverse and climbed to an altitude of almost 4000 meters to reach Mongla. There were fabulous views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Khang Theka and Tawoche. After a refreshing cup of hot lemon ginger tea we descended down by almost 1200 feet to reach Phortse Theka. Theka means a small bridge over a river...the Dudh Kosi in this case. We have entered the Gokyo valley now and will be following the river till its origin in the Nogzumba glacier...the largest in the region.

We were hoping to catch the magnificence of Thamserku and Khang Theka at sunset but were frustrated by a cloud cover and a light drizzle.

Fortunately, all the team members are in good health and spirits.
